Two exciting programs
On February 17, 2018, the Indian Music Society of Houston and Students of Pandit Shantilal Shah present a unique and thrilling musical event featuring nearly 100 performers. Two exciting concerts showcase the versatility of the percussion instrument Tabla through solo and ensemble performances as well as its prominence in the accompaniment of Vocal and instrumental music, and Kathak dance!

The full complexity and beauty of Tabla will be on display as students present unique compositions in percussion ensemble performances. Beginning with young students demonstrating their fundamental techniques, the concert takes us on a rhythmic journey through the sounds of Tabla.
The culmination of this program features senior students showcasing their mastery over the instrument through powerful compositions full of the rich tones and complex patterns Tabla is known for.

Dimensions of Tabla, a first of it’s kind concert by Pandit Shantilal Shah, showcases the solo and accompaniment aspects of Tabla through 4 dynamic performances: Tabla solo, Hindustani classical Vocal, Carnatic Violin and Kathak dance! Each item gives the audience a glimpse of the unique role Tabla plays as a solo and accompaniment instrument.
